Notes from 8/31/2011

Welcome to the Centennial High School Orchestra! Mr. Dubon has planned some wonderful concerts and activities, and we are excited about the year ahead. We have attached a calendar for your reference, but here up some upcoming dates we want to highlight:

  • T-Shirts:

This year we are ordering t-shirts (long sleeve and short sleeve) with orchestra logos the kids have selected! The purpose of these shirts is to give another "uniform" alternative to the black dress/tux for performances. All students are required to purchase both for a total of $20 (paid by check or their Student Account) The order form will be coming home today and we need it back ASAP, so we can have them for the camp!

  • September 10 CHSO Auditions (required!):

These auditions are used to determine seating placement in the orchestras. Auditions will be held at Centennial between 10 and 4, and students can come at their convenience, no need to register for a specific time. The audition itself will only take app. 15 minutes.

  • September 16 and 17, 4pm-9pm and 8am-1pm Orchestra "Camp" (required):

This is a great time for the students to get to know each other better while working with guest clinicians. Parents are invited to hear the closing concert at 12 on Saturday.

  • Concession Stand help needed:

Each of the Fine Arts organizations takes turns working the after-school concession stand. Two students and one adult are needed from about 3:15 to 4:30. Our orchestra is currently scheduled for the the first two weeks of September. Students have been signing up in the classroom. If you are available to help, please coordinate with your student and have them sign you up through Mr. Dubon. Anyone who works receives $10 in their Student Account. This money can then be applied toward upcoming trip and event expenses. More details will be available at the Orchestra Meeting.

  • September 19 Orchestra Meeting:

This is an important meeting where you will hear about all the things that are planned for the year, including a couple of trips! There will also be information about uniforms, and the girls will be fitted for dresses. You won't want to miss this chance to get all the information you need at the start of this orchestra year.

  • Chocolate Sales:

Coming next week! We are excited to again offer this easy and profitable fundraiser. Watch for details.

  • Orchestra Dues:

Dues for the year are $100. Dues can be paid at the Orchestra meeting, or your student may give a check to Mr. Dubon. Please make checks payable to: CHS FFA, with "Orchestra" on the memo line. You also have the option of paying dues per semester, with a payment of $50 now and again in January.

Several parents have expressed an interest in helping this year, and we will be contacting you in the next few days. If you would like to volunteer in some way and have not already indicated that to us on your registration form or via email, please feel free to contact us by replying to this email.

Thank you!
Jeanne Patterson and Deb Terning,
Orchestra Co-Presidents
